Average Joe

10 Sep

I like LA.

I like fitness.

Hey, I even like the gym.

I do not like LA Fitness Gym.

Yesterday morning I had a workout planned with my Marine recruiter. I got to the recruiting office and my recruiter wasn’t going to work out with me.  Boo. However, there were other Marines there and some young future Marine dudes too, so I thought I was going to get in a rather hardcore workout. I was so prepared and excited.

We walked over to LA Fitness Gym and the one Marine told me, “You can play basketball with us or just do your own thang.”

Yes, he said thang.

I would have played basketball with the guys, but I haven’t played in a few months so I felt like I would have just embarrassed myself. I do love basketball. I have been on several school basketball teams as well as club basketball teams. I should have just played, but I passed out and got on the cardio machines.

LA Fitness is just like a huge room with a billion cardio and weight machines.

I first got on this crazy elliptical then I got bored. I got on a normal elliptical next for ten minutes and got bored. I went to the stairmaster next. My own gym doesn’t have a stair master so I was super pumped. It was fun. Really. I liked it, but then I finished up a regular elliptical where after that I was going to lift some weights.

I started to lift some weights and I was going to perform some supersets. LA Fitness is so huge that they have dumbbells on one side then other heavy weight lifting shit on the other side of the room. It would take me like three minutes to walk from side to the other. That would just defeat my purpose of performing supersets.

How dumb is that! Hey, La Fitness, you’re dumb. You’re just another money-making gym. That’s my best insult.

I like my gym with half broken machines and rooms that are always being re-modeled.

I don’t know. My gym is awesome. They have towels.

Can you believe LA Fitness doesn’t have towels?

Okay. I’m just going to sweat all over the damn place, LA Fitness. Let me drip sweat on your stair master because you cannot afford towels.

Maybe it’s the fact that this LA Fitness was in a crappy location, but it sucked. I always thought LA Fitness was a top-notch gym. I guess not. There were some little Asian women in PJ’s working out. It was hilarious.

My gym, which is small, offers more classes than them.

My gym = Average Joe’s.

LA Fitness = Globo Gym filled with douchebag personal trainers

I ended up just going to my own gym to lift weights. I may have to challenge men for a machine or a weight, but at least I get a good workout in without having to walk a mile to another machine.

Do you like big gyms better or small, crappy ones that always smell like B.O.?

On a side note…

Warrior Dash tomorrow!

I hope I look like this in the end.

I need some rest. I had a 11-7:30 shift today and I worked out at 6. I’m beat.

Remember to remember 9/11. Please. Don’t let it slip your mind.

If you DO look like that after your Warrior Dash, make sure to take pictures 😀 The gym I go to is actually pretty big, but I can’t say that it would take me 3 minutes to walk from one set of weights to the other. Maybe they do that on purpose, to force you to run… so you kind of get a circuit thing going on. Lift, sprint, lift, sprint…

Hahah. I’m sure I would look like a maniac doing that.

How funny – your warrior dash is the same day as my 10K. excited? i am 🙂 …

And regarding the gym question: I definitely prefer more private smalller gyms. Mine is perfect (and close to insolvency :((( ). The classes are great and have a lot of variations. Theres enough cardio equipment as long as you don’t go like 6pm during week days and probably you should avoid the weight circuit in those rush hours as well.
And the best thing about my gym: sauna for free! yay 🙂

Big chain enterprises just want to take your money! Smaller gyms cater more for each individual needs.

LMAOO, that gym looks like a classroom or something, and the PJ women – um what the heck!? O that day is looong, get some rest and grab some ice cream or something, you deserve it!

Man that stinks about the gym! Luckily we’re too small of a state to have any “BIG” type of chain gym around here.. The biggest gym we have is the YMCA so I’ve never really been to one of those other type chains like balley or whatever else is out there haha.
Have fun at the warrior dash! I want to see pictures!

I hate hate big gyms too, everything kinda overwhelms me and the people can be reallll jerks. For the record though, you’re my new hero for actually enjoying a stair master, I avoid those babies like the plague haha
OMG have fun at the warrior dash!!!! I can’t wait to see pics 😀

I bet you are awesome at basketball:)
Yeah my gyms set up means I can’t superset certain moves I’d like to- its pretty annoying. And I hate when there are no towels- I’m a dripper and it can be embarrassing!
Please take a pic if you get caked in mud at your race. I could never do it , I don’t like dirt(I’m such a girl!)
    Xxx

Yikes that is one intense looking gym! I always think I want a complex place like that, but then I would get overwhelmed and jump around everywhere too.
Have so much fun at the race, you best take a picture 🙂

I belong to a LA Fitness and it has towels 🙂 lol!

      Hah. Jealous of those towels.

Lately your blog has been so negative:( I used to love to come and read it because it would inspire me to continue my training for xc, but now it has transformed into everything you don’t like in your life. Please go back to the old you. I know things are never perfect but you have so much more to offer people than this.

I think I would get lost in that gym wahh! I loved your insults, they sound word for word like mine. Good luck tomorrow in your race!

Yes. I hate LA Fitness. I prefer my average joe gym that is only 1.5 miles away. I feel less intimidated there too… women actually work out at my average joe gym whereas they all just hit the cardio machines at LA fitness. I belong to both though. Average Joe gym has shitty hours so sometimes LA Fitness is a must. I never lift weights there though because I’d probably get lost looking for whatever I needed.

hahaha that gym is enormous! Good luck =)

I am the same way with those super gyms! I recently joined one after leaving my smaller gym and I HATE IT!! Too bad i signed a contract so i guess ill have to learn to love it 😦 I liked the classes my smaller gym offered (pilates, hot yoga). This gym is wayyy to cardio and weight lifting centered with thier classes. Good luck with your run 🙂

haha i love this post!!! I have such a problem with chain gyms like LA fitness and LifeTime fitness and all those places. My dream in life, (no joke and it’s GOING to happen!) is to open my own gym!!! I have so many ideas that will make for a non-meat-head gym that has actual logic behind the set-up of the weight rooms, etc. I’m super pumped. Once it opens (give me about 5-7 years, haha) you should come check it outttt! hahaha

I totally want to open my own gym too. Hahah.

      • whatevertheroute September 12, 2011 at 10:03 AM #

haha yess!! do it!!!! Once we’re both successful gym-owning women, we can combine our ideas and start a gym-revolution. haha

Good luck at the Warrior Dash!! Those always sound like a blast.
And that is precisely why I don’t go to gyms! THEY SUCK MONKEY BUTT!! 😛 Plus, I hate having people around me, watching me. I like to workout at home and do my own ‘thang’. 😉

[…] No work! I woke up at six anyway to workout with some Marines. You know how that turned out. After that, I rested for a bit before I headed to my acupuncture appointment. It was incredible! […]
